2022 Practice Schedule

The Iowa Falls rugby club is looking for new players! Practices are Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm and Sunday at 3pm at the Iowa Falls rugby fields! With matches starting as soon as the 9th of April at home! Anyone and everyone is welcome and if you aren’t sure about it, come out to a practice and at least give it a try! Iowa Falls Rugby Club visits Bremer County Bucks

The Iowa Falls Rugby Club traveled to Auken Field in Waverly on April 30 to compete with the Bremer County Bucks. Bremer County used their backfield play to score 22 unanswered points in the first half. Iowa Falls continued aggressive forward pack play throughout the match but continued to be overmatched on the wings dropping an additional 28 points in the second half. Craig Pruismann scored a try in the last minute with a conversion by Justin Liekweg for the final tally 50-7.
The All-Iowa Tournament is scheduled at the local pitches on May 7 and 8. Bremer County heads to St. Louis for the national club playoffs.
 
 

All Iowa Rugby Tournament 2022

All Iowa Rugby Tournament is coming up quickly May 7th and 8th. If your team is planning on attending you need to get your entry fee sent in. To date ONE entry fee has been recieved. Tournament will be open to Men’s and Women’s teams from Iowa and surrounding states.
 
15’s on Saturday, 7’s on Sunday.
ENTRY FEE IS $400 and covers 15’s and 7’s entry.
Captains meeting 8:00 am, brackets will be by draw of names at 8:15 am… play starts at 9 am.
Entry fees must be paid before Friday May 6th via Venmo or paypal.
No walk up entries accepted morning of tournament.

Round Robins 90’s Tournament

Iowa Falls Rugby participated in a West Des Moines tournament April 23. The local club’s first match was against an Iowa State side. Iowa Falls was introducing 4 new players from Ellsworth Community College to the sport. The team played hard fought rugby with Iowa State scoring twice shortly before halftime 14-0. The close match continued in the second half with Iowa Falls’ Kevin Rewerts scoring late in the second half for the final 14-5.
Iowa Falls Rugby second match was against the West Des Moines Wombats. In another close match the Wombats scored twice in the first half 12-0. Craig Pruismann scored on a breakaway in the second half 12-7 to bring victory within reach. The Wombats however scored late in the second half 19-7 to end Iowa Falls efforts.
The local club next plays at Bremer County on April 30. The All Iowa Tournament in Iowa Falls is May 7 and 8.

Iowa Falls Rugby Club hosted the Northeast Iowa Barbarians

The Iowa Falls Rugby Club hosted the Northeast Iowa Barbarians on April 9. The Barbarians traveled short of players and numbers were added from Mason City and Iowa Falls. The Barbarians were swift to strike in the first two minutes with crisp passing and rapid ball movement leading 0-5. The Iowa Falls ruggers regrouped with Justin Liekweg knotting the score at the twelfth minute 5-5. Craig Pruismann and Justin Liekweg widened the score each adding a try before halftime 17-5. In the second half Peyton Williams scampered along the sideline for a breakaway try 22-5. Northeast Iowa continued hard hitting rapid paced play to reduce the margin to 22-12. Jace Ites and Craig Pruismann capped off the scoring with Pruismann adding a deuce for a final 37-12. In other weekend action April 9 the Western Conference U23 women saw Iowa defeating Minnesota and Wisconsin defeating Illinois. In the championship match on April 10 Iowa battled Wisconsin to 37-14 victory. The collegiate fixtures were followed by two high school girls rugby matches between the Iowa high school Hawkettes and the national champion Divine Savior Holy Angels high school rugby teams from Milwaukee , Wisconsin.

2022 Spring Season Opener against NE IA Barbarians of Decorah

The Iowa Falls Rugby Club opens their spring season against the Northeast Iowa Barbarians of Decorah. The match will be at the local pitch Field 1 on Saturday April 9 at 1 PM. Attendance is free to the public. Any young men interested in learning the game of rugby are invited to our practices on Tuesday and Thursday at 6 PM on Georgetown Road.
Additionally the Iowa Union will host a regional women’s under age 23 select side tournament on Field 2 (along Georgetown Road) Saturday and Sunday April 9 and 10. The U 23 tournament will feature teams from Iowa , Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

9/4/2021 – Iowa Falls Rugby Football Club vs. Des Moins D2 side

The Iowa Falls Rugby Club hosted the Des Moines D2 side for their second match of the season. Seth Thompson was able to score in the first minute . Iowa Falls led 5-0 hoping for a repeat of the previous week. However Des Moines was awarded a disputed penalty try to take the lead 5-7. Forward pack play was hard hitting and equal but Des Moines was able to distribute the ball to their back line quickly leading 5-31 at half time. The Iowa Falls ruggers evened play in the second half but were turned away by Des Moines’ defense at the try line several times. Des Moines added two tries for the final tally 5-43. The Iowa Falls Club next hosts Quad City Irish at the local pitch on September 18 at 1:00 PM.

8/28/2021 – River City vs IFRFC. Back in action after the pandemic.

After an 18 month hiatus due to the pandemic the Iowa Falls Rugby Club resumed competition with the River City Rugby Club in Mason City on August 28.
 
The match started quickly with two tries by Matt Copeland in the first 10 minutes with a conversion by Justin Liekweg for a 12-0 lead. Iowa Falls then lost momentum for a short period allowing River City to tighten the score at 12-7. Iowa Falls then surged into the lead behind two tries by Dayton Hayley and one by Craig Pruismann with conversions by Justin Liekweg for a 33-7 lead at half time.
 
The Iowa Falls ruggers continued their scoring pace in the second half with 2 additional tries apiece by Dayton Haley and Craig Pruismann and Jake Miller and Landon Sanders each contributing one try. Justin Liekweg completed all conversions. The final tally at full time was 69-7.
 
The Club next hosts the Des Moines Rugby Club on September 4 at the Iowa Falls Pitch. Match time is 1 PM. The IFRFC welcomes all
